Troubleshooting - "Invalid drive" message when installing a patch

Serif Software
Applies to: Any Serif product

Problem: When installing a patch, you get the error "Invalid drive X:\" (drive letter may vary) and then the patch install rolls back. The install log may also return Error 1327.

This problem may occur if a removable drive (e.g. USB memory stick, camera, portable hard drive, etc) was connected to the PC during the original install of the product but is not connected when installing the patch, or if the drive letters of the PC have been changed since the product was originally installed.

Resolution 1: Plug in the removable device that is mapped to the drive letter in the error message, then install the patch again.
Note: This is a temporary resolution and will need to be repeated if any more patches are installed in the future.

Resolution 2: Reinstall the program with all non-essential removable drives disconnected by following these steps:
  1. Disconnect any removable drives that are non-essential to your PC's main functions
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Open "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP) or "Programs" > "Uninstall a Program" (Vista, Windows 7)
  4. Uninstall the affected Serif product
  5. Reinstall the affected Serif product from your CD, DVD or download
  6. Install the patch
Warning: Ensure that you can find your CD, DVD or download to before you uninstall the affected product or you will need to get a replacement before you can reinstall.
