Troubleshooting - Site search fails when previewing or publishing site to disk

Problem: After previewing your site in browser or publishing it to disk, site search fails with the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage":

Resolution: This problem will only occur if the site is viewed by using the Preview Site or Publish To Disk option, and if Internet Explorer 9 is used to view the site, and if the search results box is on the same page as the search input box. To see your search working correctly in Internet Explorer 9, you will need to publish your site to the web and view it from a web server rather than from your local hard drive.
