FAQ - How do I create a sepia effect?

Serif Software > PhotoPlus
Applies to: PhotoPlus X4 and above

Sepia is a red-brown monochrome tint which can be applied to photos as part of a digital antiquing process. Sepia tones are often used in wedding and glamour photography because the effect softens the photo and gives a classic, vintage feel.

There are two ways of applying a Sepia effect in PhotoPlus.

The first method uses PhotoFix:
1. Make sure the layer your photo is on is selected in the Layers tab.
2. Open PhotoFix by clicking the PhotoFix icon on the Photo Studio toolbar at the top of the workspace.
3. Choose one of the following Favorites presets on the left side.

- Lighting: Sepia
- Creative: Old Photo
- Creative: Etching
- Creative: Intense Sepia

When you click an effect, it is automatically applied to the photo, and the preview is updated so you can see the effect.

The second method uses a Colourize adjustment:
1. Make sure the layer your photo is on is selected in the Layers tab.
2. From the Adjustments tab, click Colourize.
3. Expand the drop-down list and choose Sepia tone.
4. You can customize the effect using the sliders.
